Faculty Resources for the Textbook Rental Program

The Campus Store’s textbook rental program provides every undergraduate and graduate student access to textbooks and course materials, digitally and physically, in exchange for a fixed fee per semester.

Dates and Deadlines

Fall 2025

  • March 18: Verba Collect course adoption submissions begin.
  • April 25: Verba Collect course adoption submissions due.
  • Aug. 4: The VitalSource eBook Course Catalog is activated. This allows students and faculty to see their adopted eBooks in VitalSource.

Selecting Textbooks and Course Materials

Digital textbooks and publisher-provided materials will be available by the first day of class via your AsULearn Dashboard.

Textbooks

  • Faculty may update digital rental selections each term.
  • Physical textbooks (without digital versions) will require a two-year adoption.

Course Materials

  • Students will need to purchase items like lab kits, workbooks, one-time-use items, course packs, and other materials.
  • If your course requires special order supplies (e.g., paper, pens, notebooks), email campusstore@appstate.edu to ensure availability.

Requesting Course Materials

Each term, faculty receive an email from the Campus Store via Verba Collect prompting them to submit textbook and material requests.

You have full academic freedom to choose your course materials. However, materials outside the digital rental program may result in higher costs for students.

Tips for Submitting Requests

  • Choose the latest editions—they're more likely to be available digitally.
  • Submit the unique digital ISBN for all publisher courseware (eBooks, digital labs, homework, quizzes, etc.)
  • If no digital version exists, a physical rental will be provided.
  • You can check material formats (digital/physical) one month before the term begins.

Viewing Adopted Materials

Faculty may check or review submitted adoptions once the Campus Store has provisioned all course materials, generally about 2 weeks before classes begin.

Adding Course Materials to AsULearn

Each faculty member will need to place the VitalSource link in their AsULearn course whether or not they actively use AsULearn for the course.

If you’ve imported or restored a course from a previous semester that had a VitalSource link, it will already be present and will work.

Instructions and Tutorial

Academic Technologies provides instruction and support for faculty members that may need assistance with getting their course materials added to their AsULearn course.
